In light of the COVID-19 pandemic which has struck the entire world, forcing it into a great global lockdown, social distancing has become key to our survival.

Facebook has announced that they will be collecting data about users’ movements and relationships in an effort to help researchers better anticipate the potential areas in which the coronavirus might spread.

Microsoft Corporation and C3.ai, a company which specializes in artificial intelligence (AI), have partnered with six US-based universities to form a research consortium in an effort to speed up the digital transformation of governments, societies and businesses.

It is no doubt or surprise that technology has radically changed the way we go about our daily lives. Our hyper digital world has seen the rapid shift from rural to urban, greater smartphone adoption, an increase in intelligent devices per individual, tech savvy consumers and connected services. 

Smart Cities are no longer a phenomenon of the future, they are rapidly becoming a part of our digital reality. Smart cities use emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), smart sensors, augmented/virtual reality and many others to better the lives of the city’s respective citizens.
