The Swedish-Swiss multinational corporation was selected by Malarenergi in an effort to help Vasteras become a leading smart city. The city is the fifth largest urban area in Sweden - and it is hoped that the implementation of smart solutions will help make the city a more attractive place for its residents and future investment for business.

ABB and Malerenergi partnered last year in a bid to develop digital solutions aimed at minimizing the environmental impact and creating high-value digital services for customers. A representative of ABB said the primary objective of this investment is to integrate the control rooms of the many automation systems that manage these expansive operations to create one unified operating environment.

CEO of the Swedish energy giant, Niklas Gunnar said the cutting-edge innovative technology provided by ABB enabled them to offer their customers better services.

He said, "The cost and environmental benefits of using ABB's digital technologies to reduce our operating footprint is remarkable. This will free up financial resources currently being used inefficiently to run different facilities, and instead be invested in areas that will truly benefit our customers."

ABB has stated that its 'smart city solution' can leverage its 'Ability collaborative operations' approach to deliver the integration of these technologies and services by utilizing the existing operational expertise provided by Malarenergi.

ABB's Ability collaborative operations, is part of the company's portfolio of digital solutions. It provides performance management, remote monitoring and preventive analysis technologies to ensure security and improve efficiency, whilst also increasing productivity in many industries globally.

Managing director at ABB, Kevin Kosiko expressed his delight at being able to partner with the Swedish energy company on such an ambitious and innovative project that has been designed to transform the city of Vasteras.

He said, "We are proud to partner with Mälarenergi on [its] digital transformation, and create tangible benefits for Västerås's residents and businesses. Our record of driving digitalization and delivering smart city solutions will help Västerås operate at high levels of efficiency, sustainability and resilience."
